The S. W. Betz Company was founded in 1933 by Samuel Betz, making it one of the oldest material handling companies in the Mid-Atlantic region. Over the years, Samuel and the rest of the Betz team worked to solve their customers’ material handling and weighing problems while becoming leaders in the field in terms of knowledge and expertise. Samuel and his team created a culture of representing quality products at competitive prices with superior service. Samuel wanted to show his fellow Baltimore community members how much his company cared about providing them with the best service and most effective solutions to their problems.

The company experienced profitability and success for many years as it passed through different generations of the Betz family.  In 2010, a couple purchased the S.W. Betz Company from the Betz family.  They were committed to the original motto of selling quality products at competitive prices with superior customer service – while truly caring about their customers.

In 2015, the tradition of remaining a family-owned business continued, as S.W. Betz became part of the Advance Scale Company family.  Customer relationships had been the foundation on which that second generation family business had grown since 1973, when it was founded by Jim and Sheila Santarpio.  Since then, dedication, professionalism, and integrity have positioned the Advance family as a leading provider of weighing solutions and material handling throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and the Northeast corridor.
